NEW YORK (WCBS 880) -- A young boy was killed when he was hit by an SUV while riding his bicycle in Brooklyn on Saturday morning, police say.

Dalerjon Shahobiddinov, 10, was in the crosswalk at Seton Place and Foster Avenune in Midwood when he was hit by the Ford Explorer driven by Victor Mejia, according to police.

Mejia had been taking a left turn from Seton onto Foster when he struck Shahobiddinov, police said.

The boy suffered traumatic injuries in the crash and was rushed to Maimonides Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Police said Mejia remained at the scene after the collision.

He was arrested and faces charges of failing to yield to a bicyclist, failing to exercise due care and driving without a license.

The Daily News reports that Shahobiddinov would be the 22nd bicyclist killed on city streets this year. That’s more than double the number of cyclists killed all last year.

Just two weeks ago, a 14-year-old boy died after being hit by a truck in Long Island City.
