14-Year-Old Cyclist Struck By Truck, Killed In Queens

NEW YORK (WCBS 880) – A 14-year-old boy was killed when he was struck by a truck while bicycling in Queens Saturday afternoon, police said.

Mario Venezuela was riding eastbound alongside a truck on Borden Avenue in Long Island City when the truck’s driver took a right turn at 11th Street, according to police.

The truck hit Venezuela shortly before 2 p.m. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The truck’s 33-year-old driver stayed at the scene and has not been charged, police said.

The NYPD said its Collision Investigation Squad is handling the case.

Venezuela is the 21st cyclist killed on the streets of New York this year, according to the Daily News.
