NEW YORK (WCBS 880) -- Police say two people died in a car crash early Sunday morning in Long Island.

The victims were in a 2011 Volkswagen Jetta when at around 12:50 a.m. it collided with the rear of a 2007 Toyota near exit W2 of the Wantagh State Parkway in East Meadow.

The vehicle then veered onto the shoulder and smashed into a tree, state police said.

The two people inside the Toyota were not injured, police said.

All lanes on the parkway northbound from Hempstead Turnpike to Old Country Road at Exit 2 were closed for several hours and then re-opened.
