NEW YORK (WCBS 880) – An off-duty NYPD officer was among two people killed in a fiery crash on the Henry Hudson Parkway Sunday morning, officials said.

“We’re mourning the loss of one of New York’s Finest today. We lost an NYPD Officer today after a terrible car crash early this morning,” Mayor de Blasio tweeted Sunday afternoon.

A Mercedes Benz was traveling south on the Henry Hudson Parkway around 3:45 a.m. Sunday when it went off the roadway and crashed into a tree, according to police.

Kimberly Lajara, 24, and her passenger, 32-year-old Oscar Monegro, died in the vehicle when it was consumed by fire, police said.

Lajara was an NYPD officer, according to the 121st Precinct.

"Rest In Peace Police Officer Lajara. You will be missed by your entire 121 Precinct Family," the precinct tweeted.

An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
