3 Nassau County Police Officers Arrested In Casino Heist Plot

HAUPPAUGE, N.Y. (WCBS 880) -- Three Nassau County police officers stood accused Wednesday of being involved in a drug ring, and a plan to rob a high roller at Jake’s 58 casino on Long Island.

As WCBS 880’s Sophia Hall reported, Suffolk County District Attorney Tim Sini said what started out as a drug investigation turned into an investigation into a casino heist.

In the end, Sini said, three Nassau County officers were arrested – Eric Skoglun, his girlfriend Karen Ernst, and Bruce Moeller – whose wife worked as a cashier at the casino in Islandia.

“What materialized from these efforts was evidence that Bruce and Christina Moeller hatched two separate schemes involving robberies at the casino. The first was a conspiracy to rob a high roller – a patron at the casino – and the second was a conspiracy to rob an armored truck, which contained cash from the casino,” Sini said.

Sini said the high roller won $78,000. A number of search warrants were issued, he said, at homes across Suffolk County, and heroin, cocaine, marijuana, painkillers, and steroids were seized.

Ten others were also arrested.
