NEW YORK (WCBS 880) – Four women were killed after a fire tore through an apartment building in the Bronx on Tuesday night, authorities said.

The fire broke out on the sixth floor of an apartment building on the Grand Concourse, near E. Mount Eden Ave., in the Mount Eden section around 7:30 p.m.

The victims included two women in one apartment and two women in a neighboring apartment.

The fire reportedly spread in apartment 603 before spreading to the two apartments where the women died.

The victims included a 70-year-old retired nurse practitioner and her niece, the Daily News reported.

It’s unclear how the fire started; sources told the Daily News it may have been a space heater.
