NEW YORK (WCBS 880) -- A woman who was hit by a shopping cart that was thrown off of an East Harlem overpass has won a jury verdict of $45 million.

Marion Hedges was struck by the cart in 2011, suffered brain injuries, and was nearly killed.

Two teenagers had tossed the cart from a 79-foot high overpass outside a Target in East Harlem.

Hedges sued Target, the shopping mall, and the security company for negligence saying the businesses ignored past incidents with shopping carts.

She said she plans to donate a portion of the money to support the Johnson Community Center on East 113th Street.
