NYPD Has Person Of Interest In Grisly Slashing At Manhattan Apartment

NEW YORK (WCBS 880) -- The NYPD has a person of interest in the gruesome murder of an advertisement executive in her apartment on the Upper West Side.

The woman who police say is a person of interest in the homicide lives in the same building as the victim, 70-year-old Susan Trott. She was not in custody as of Monday evening, according to police.

NYPD Chief of Detectives Dermot Shea wouldn’t divulge if Trott and the woman knew each other, though there was no sign of forced entry into the apartment.

A business partner decided to pay Trott a visit Sunday morning after he hadn't heard from her. He found her with a slashed neck inside her apartment near West End Avenue and West 95th Street.

He told police he discovered blood in the living room and followed the trail into the bedroom, where Trott was found unconscious and unresponsive. She was pronounced dead at the scene around 5 a.m.

“Autopsy was completed today. The cause of death is a cut to the neck. That’s going to be deemed a homicide,” Shea said Monday.

Neighbors explained they were shocked to learn about the death as the area is considered relatively safe.

The apartment building is equipped with multiple security cameras and all visitors must pass through a security check at the front door.

Trott’s neighbors told WCBS 880 that she was a wonderful woman who loved dogs and would often feed the birds in the neighborhood.
