NEW YORK (WCBS 880) – A robber forced his way into a 73-year-old Navy veteran’s Bronx apartment before attacking him repeatedly with a butcher knife and stealing his money, according to police and reports.

The victim was at his home on East 175th Street in Tremont a couple of weeks ago when he got a knock at his door, police say.

When he opened it, a man forced his way in, grabbed a knife from the kitchen and sat the victim down in a chair in the living room, according to police.

The robber then began slashing the victim’s arms and hands as he demanded money.

“He kept saying he wanted the money, he wanted the money,” the victim, a Navy veteran, told CBS 2.

The victim told CBS 2 that the robber then seemed to know where to go, grabbing $2,000 in cash from beneath his mattress.

Before leaving the apartment, the robber stole the victim’s cell phone and house phone so he couldn’t call 911, CBS 2 reported.

The NYPD released surveillance video of the suspect this weekend. They say it shows him approaching the apartment and leaving after the robbery.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
