Amazon Prime Day 2019: The Best Deals And How To Shop Smart

July 15, 2019 - 1:45 pm

NEW YORK (WCBS 880) Amazon Prime Day 2019 got underway Monday, meaning prices have fallen for countless products, including must-have tech products, for 48 hours.

Prime members will be able to shop the best deals until 2:59 a.m. Tuesday, July 16. If you’re not a Amazon Prime subscriber, you can still get in on the deals by signing up for a free 30-day trial to the service, then let it auto-renew or cancel it after the trial comes to an end.

All day long, Amazon will be rolling out new Spotlight Deals and Lightning Deals, so while some savings will last 48 hours, others will come and go in just a matter of minutes in some cases.

“A lot of the initial Amazon deals are on their own products – surprise! You know, things like Kindles and the Amazon Echo Dot —which is now down to like $22 – that said, there’s a lot of deals of clothes, there’s a handful of good TVs, some smart locks, that's a lot of people buying an instant pot,” explained CNET senior managing editor Dan Ackerman.

According to reports, Prime Day is bigger than Black Friday and Cyber Monday when it comes to the amount of money consumer's spend.

Ackerman notes that shoppers should be aware of that and think before they shop.

“They have tens and tens of thousands of things on sale and frankly, they don't do a great job of presenting it in a digestible way – I don't think anybody does though, that may be an unsolvable problem with the way the internet is right now – but if you have something you're interested in, I always throw me in a third-party app like ‘Camel Camel Camel,’ which tracks Amazon prices and will send you alert when something drops.”

This year also bring increased competition from other big retailers.

Target, Walmart and Best Buy are all launching big sales on their own websites to compete with Amazon during the two-day Prime Day event.

The best advice from experts: go in with a plan and know what you want before you start clicking and buying.
