NEW YORK (WCBS 880) -- A Pittsburgh-bound American Airlines flight was forced to return to LaGuardia Airport following a bird strike Monday morning.

In a statement to WCBS 880 the airline said Flight 2107 encountered a bird strike on takeoff at 8:11 a.m. and returned to LaGuardia, where it landed safely at 8:25 a.m.

The plane taxied to the gate and is being evaluated by a maintenance team.

All 98 passengers are being rebooked on other flights to Pittsburgh.

"We never want to disrupt our customers’ travel plans, and we are sorry for the trouble this has caused," the airline said.
