NEW YORK (WCBS 880) -- A 24-year-old woman was arrested Wednesday in the gruesome murder of an advertisement executive on the Upper West Side.

Anya Johnston faces murder and burglary charges in the death of her neighbor, 70-year-old Susan Trott.

A business partner decided to pay Trott a visit at her apartment near West End Avenue and West 95th Street last Sunday morning after he hadn't heard from her. He told police he discovered blood in the living room and followed the trail into the bedroom, where Trott was found unconscious and unresponsive.

She was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said her neck had been slashed.

Johnston lives in the same building as the victim. She was identified as a person of interest almost immediately after detectives found a trail of blooding leading from Trott's 14th floor apartment to the 15th floor apartment that Johnston shared with her mother, WCBS 880's Marla Diamond reported.

Johnston had been at Mount Sinai's psyciatrict ward since the discovery of Trott's body, Diamond reported.

It is unclear if the two knew each other.
