August 19, 2018 - 10:31 am

NEW YORK (WCBS 880) -- A man in a wheelchair was shot by and off-duty police officer in Brooklyn early Sunday.

Cops responded to a shooting at a home on East 43rd Street in East Flatbush just before 3 a.m. There they found the 30-year-old man with a gunshot wound on his hip.

Police said the man in the wheelchair had shot at the home where the off-duty officer was and the cop returned fire.

The wheelchair-bound shooter was then transported to Brookdale Hospital where he was listed in stable condition in police custody.

No other injuries were reported but the officer was taken to Methodist Hospital for evaluation.

A handgun was recovered at the scene.

It’s unclear what prompted the man to begin shooting at the home.

The investigation is ongoing.
