Authorities Probe Drive-By Shooting That Left Man Wounded In Elizabeth, N.J.

ELIZABETH, N.J. (WCBS 880) -- Police were searching Sunday for whoever was behind a drive-by shooting that left a man critically injured in Elizabeth, New Jersey.

The shooting happened sometime between 5:15 a.m. and 5:45 a.m. Saturday on U.S. Routes 1 & 9 in Elizabeth, according to the Union County Prosecutor’s office.

The victim of the shooting, a 28-year-old man who lives in Elizabeth, is in critical condition at a local hospital, prosecutors said.

Gunfire came from a dark-colored sport-utility vehicle or pickup truck and struck the man, who was in a white BMW SUV on Routes 1 & 9 near McClellan Street, police said.

The driver of the vehicle hit by the gunfire transported the man for emergency medical treatment, prosecutors said.
