NEW YORK (WCBS 880) — A Queens driver narrowly avoided serious injuries Thursday when a crumbling piece of subway debris crashed through the windshield of his SUV.

What appeared to be a piece of track from the elevated 7 train tracks crashed into the moving vehicle near 65th Street in Woodside. It was later confirmed to be a wooden beam, or some sort of other debris, from the train line.

Uber driver Mahboob Lodhi, who was driving, told CBS 2, “I was just surprise. I was shaking.”

City Councilman Jimmy Van Bramer, who represents the particular section of Queens, posted images of the incident on Twitter writing, “These photos are horrifying!”

In a follow-up tweet, he noted that driver was not harmed, but the situation could have been much worse.

“Were somebody sitting in that passenger seat, without question, they would have died," the councilman later told WCBS 880's Peter Haskell.

He added that he is "absolutely concerned that this could happen again."

“There must be an immediate investigation into how something this dangerous could happen. @MTA must answer for our crumbling subway infrastructure before a tragedy occurs,” the councilman wrote.

The MTA says it will be conducting a full investigation.
