NEW YORK (WCBS 880) -- The bodies of two women bound together with duct tape washed up on the Upper West Side on Wednesday afternoon.

The gruesome discovery was made along the Hudson River around 2:40 p.m. near Riverside Boulevard and West 71st Street in the vicinity of Riverside Park.

The identities of the two women have not been released.

There were no obvious signs of physical trauma to either of the women, according to police.

Mark Sparrow is not used to seeing a black NYPD tarp along the Hudson River.

"It's just spooky and scary, and you don't know what happened here," he told WCBS 880's Mike Smeltz.

A woman who gave her name as Leigh said she lives in one of the large condos along the river. She stopped by to check out the commotion.

"Those two poor girls. Who knows what happened to them and what terrible things happen in New York City?" she said.

The Medical Examiner is working to determine what killed the two women. Police said an investigation is ongoing.
