Police: Bronx Supermarket Owner Shot Thief Dead
NEW YORK (WCBS 880) -- A Bronx supermarket owner is being questioned after he allegedly shot dead a robber in his store Sunday night.
According to police, the 32-year-old man was attempting to rob J Market on Morrison Ave. near East 172nd Street in Soundview at around 10:30 p.m.
During the attempted robbery, the 43-year-old owner pulled out a gun and shot him in the head.
It’s unclear if the alleged thief was armed.
Emergency responders took the 32-year-old to Jacobi Medical Center, where he later died. He was later identified as Daniel Meeks, of the Bronx.
Cops brought the store’s owner to the 43rd Precinct house for questioning.
The investigation is ongoing but a source told the Daily News that police believe the owner possessed the gun legally.
