NEW YORK (WCBS 880) — A Brooklyn rabbi and his wife were brutally beaten Tuesday night at the synagogue they run in Kenya.

According to authorities, five attackers hit Rabbi Shmuel Notik and his wife, Chaya, with sticks while yelling anti-Semitic insults at them.

The attackers stole cash, computers and other valuables after beating in the Kenyan capital of Nairobi.

While Rabbi Notik was only slightly harmed, his wife was hospitalized with serious injuries.

According to the Jewish Telegraphic Agency, Chaya was able to avoid further injures when she locked herself and her children in a bathroom while the attackers fled.

Kenyan police believe the robbery was an inside job and are currently investigating a recently fired security guard.
