Buster The Police Dog Busts Officer Smuggling Drugs Into Manhattan Jail

NEW YORK (WCBS 880) -- A drug sniffing dog is begin credited with catching a city correction officer accused of smuggling marijuana into a Manhattan jail.

Authorities said the dog, named Buster, busted Officer Thomas Stewart as he tried to smuggle two bricks of the drug into a Manhattan Detention Complex on Friday.

The packages were concealed inside Stewart’s clothing and contained rubber balloons filled with marijuana.

Officers also recovered $140 in cash that they say was payment to smuggle the drugs to an inmate.

Stewart was arrested on charges including receiving a bribe and promoting prison contraband.
