Long Island Mom Accused Of Trying To Run Down Officers During Traffic Stop

FARMINGVILLE, N.Y. (WCBS 880) -- A Long Island woman is accused of trying to run over police officers during a traffic stop.

Authorities say Casandra Diaferio had her 19-month-old baby girl in the car when she was stopped for a traffic violation around 10 p.m. Tuesday in Farmingville.

But prosecutors said instead of complying with the officers, she instead tried to run them down and the officers had to jump out of the way.

The 32-year old's attorney says her client is a good mother and never was arrested before. She put the blame on Diaferio's male friend who was also in the vehicle.

"She's a good mother, that's why it surprises me," said Diaferio's cousin, who spoke after the arraignment.

Diaferio is not allowed to see her child. An order of protection has been put in place.

The little girl will be staying with her grandparents, WCBS 880's Sophia Hall reported.

Diaferio was held on $45,000 bond.
