NEW YORK (WCBS 880) -- The New York City Department of Buildings in shutting down an illegal parking lot in Brooklyn after a young girl was fatally struck by a vehicle backing out of it last month.

Luz Gonzalez, 4, was hit and killed by an SUV trying to leave Clean City Laundry during the afternoon on June 24.

Gonzalez has been riding her scooter on the sideway when her shoe fell off. Police say as her mother attempted to put the shoe back on, the SUV backed into them.

The woman in the SUV drove off and Gonzalez was pronounced dead at the scene. Cops caught up to the runaway driver but did not charge her with a crime.

Neighbors say they’ve complained about the parking lot before because cars have no driveway to access the street and will drive perilously onto the sidewalk to park.

The NYPD has already blocked off the lot and the DOB has finally called for its immediate removal.
