Claire Foy Paid Less Than Male Co-Star On Netflix's 'The Crown'

NEW YORK (WCBS 880/AP) -- "The Crown" is a very popular Netflix show about the life of Queen Elizabeth II, but we're now finding out the actress who played the queen was not even the highest paid person on the show.

A producer of the hit royal drama said Claire Foy, who won numerous awards for her portrayal, was paid less than her on-screen husband.

Variety on Tuesday quoted producer Suzanne Mackie as confirming Foy was paid less than Matt Smith, who played Prince Philip in two seasons of the series. She made the reported comment at an industry event in Jerusalem.

She said this was because Smith was better-known after starring in sci-fi series "Doctor Who.''

Mackie said that from the forthcoming third season, "no one gets paid more than the queen.''

Foy and Smith will not be on the show next season as it jumps ahead several years and the producers have recast the parts.
