Traffic Nightmare Predicted For Fourth Of July Weekend

June 29, 2018 - 12:18 pm

NEW YORK (WCBS 880) -- Independence Day is falling in the middle of the week this year and the American Automobile Association is predicting the worst for traffic conditions.

AAA spokesman Robert Sinclair Jr. is predicting a record number of travelers to flock to New York City from Tuesday, July 3 to Sunday, July 8, and is cautioning commuters to account for significant delays.

“Folks have sufficient vacation time and they can take the entire week of,” Sinclair explained.

Aside from vacation time, Sinclair said they also believe the improving economy will play a factor in traffic conditions. In comparison to 2012 – when July 4 last fell on a Wednesday – people generally have more disposable income as household net worth and salaries have increased.

AAA is referring to July 3 as “terrible Tuesday” and says that from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., drivers should expect gridlock delays.
