November 18, 2018 - 2:31 pm

BRIDGEPORT, C.T. (WCBS 880) -- Officers gifted some Connecticut drivers with turkeys instead of tickets ahead of Thanksgiving.

One of the encounters was caught on camera and posted to the Bridgeport Police Facebook page.

In the video, a man was pulled over by police for not wearing his seatbelt as he drove into the Stop & Shop Plaza Thursday.

He was startled to see officers on both sides of his car, but that was just the beginning of his surprise.

He was asked to step out of the car, but instead of getting a ticket he was presented with a Thanksgiving turkey.

“I’m like, ‘What could I have done?’” the driver says to the officers, smiling.

“Hey, you’re not wearing your seat belt, but today instead of a ticket you get a turkey,” Sgt. Angelo Collazo replies, according to

“And you guys get a smile,” the driver responded.

The Bridgeport Police Department’s Office of Community Services has done similar events for years.

Officers also spent Thursday through Saturday collecting food and money donations for an event to give about 250 families all the fixings of a Thanksgiving meal for free.
