NEW YORK (WCBS 880) -- Police have identified two young sisters whose bodies were found duct-taped together along the Hudson River this week.

The sisters are 16-year-old Tala Farea and 22-year-old Rotana Farea, the NYPD says.

The Center for Missing and Exploiting Children says the two sisters were last seen on Aug. 24 before they disappeared from their home in Fairfax, Virginia.

The Medical Examiner is working to determine what killed the two women..

The gruesome discovery was made along the Hudson River Wednesday afternoon, near Riverside Boulevard and West 71st Street in the vicinity of Riverside Park.

The women's bodies were found on rocks near the river, according to the NYPD.

There were no obvious signs of physical trauma to either of the victims, and there doesn't appear to be any criminality involved, police sources say.

On Wednesday, a woman who gave her name as Leigh said she lives in one of the large condos along the river. She stopped by to check out the commotion.

"Those two poor girls. Who knows what happened to them and what terrible things happen in New York City?" she said.
