Cops Investigate Long Beach BB Gun Attacks As Possible Hate Crime

November 05, 2018 - 5:30 pm

LONG BEACH, N.Y. (WCBS 880) – Police on Long Island are searching for the people responsible for shooting at six people with a BB gun, including yeshiva students.

As WCBS 880’s Sophia Hall reports, the three yeshiva students were in different areas of Long Beach when they were shot at.

“At Magnolia and Beech Street, the individual was shot in the hat. They wear very high hats, so it went right through the hat. It never struck his head,” Police Commissioner Michael Tangney explained.

“Then the bad guy, if you will, drove eastbound for three blocks and at Riverside and Beech, shot another individual that was standing outside by himself and hit him in the foot, and shot at another individual that was dressed in all dark and with the hat. The BB bounced off the hat,” Tangney said.

Police said they are investigating whether the three were targeted because of their faith. Authorities said that three women were also shot over the weekend.

“None of the BBs penetrated skin or clothing, except for the one that went into the hat. But there were no injuries. There was just complaints of pain,” Tangney said.

Police are looking for three suspects who were in the dark-colored Nissan SUV. One of the suspects is a female.

Anyone with information is encouraged to call the Long Beach Police Department.
