1 Dead In Chain Reaction Crash On Cross Bronx Expressway

NEW YORK (WCBS 880) -- One person was killed and another critically injured in a chain-reaction crash on the Cross Bronx Expressway early Monday.

Two cars first collided in the westbound lanes near Webster Avenue around 1:20 a.m.

Police said when the occupants got out of their cars to inspect the damage a second pile-up involving at least three vehicles occurred.

One of the victims was struck and thrown onto the roadway and was pronounced dead at the scene.

At least six others were taken to area hospitals.

The westbound side of the expressway was closed for nearly eight hours as a result of the wreck.
