NEW YORK (WCBS 880) – Police in Brooklyn are investigating a chain-reaction crash in Brooklyn that killed a cyclist and injured two others.

The unidentified 52-year-old man is the 19th cyclist to die this year in New York City, an alarming toll that has the city vowing to put in more miles of protected bike lanes.

Police say a silver sedan ran a red light on Coney Island Avenue and crashed into an SUV.

Video of the collision shows the force of the impact, which police say sent both vehicles crashing into the cyclist and a pedestrian.

The cyclist, who had head trauma, was pronounced dead at Coney Island Hospital.

The pedestrian, also a 52-year-old man, as well as a 38-year-old man in the SUV were taken to Maimonides Medical Center in stable condition.

The 18-year-old driver who ran the red light was taken into custody, police said. Charges against him were pending.
