De Blasio, Sharpton Hand Out Food In Harlem For Christmas

December 25, 2018 - 5:34 pm

NEW YORK (WCBS 880) – Mayor Bill de Blasio joined the Rev. Al Sharpton in Harlem on Christmas, handing out food to the needy.

The mayor says New York is an example of what the holiday is all about.

“We show people the way to do it right, we show our nation that people can actually understand each other,” he said.

De Blasio was dishing out sweet potatoes to a line of people packed into Sharpton’s National Action Network headquarters, also called the “House of Justice.”

“This is not only about Santa Claus, it’s about a baby born in a manger that taught us about peace and justice and fairness,” Sharpton said.

It’s been a Christmas tradition for Sharpton dating back decades, and the community is always appreciative.

“This meal means everything to me right now,” one woman said.

“Just coming together, it’s a beautiful experience,” a man said. “I enjoy this every year.”
