Near Full Service Restored On LIRR 2 Days After Deadly Crash

NEW YORK (WCBS 880) —  The Long Island Rail Road will have nearly full service on the Huntington/Port Jefferson and Ronkonkoma branches during the Thursday evening rush hour.

Just three trains are canceled.

The two lines have experienced delays and cancellations following a crash that left three people were dead Tuesday night when two Long Island Rail Road trains struck a vehicle that police said was went around a gate at a crossing in Westbury.

The vehicle erupted into flames and a westbound train derailed, slamming into the Westbury station platform. The disabled train was removed from the tracks Thursday morning after crews worked overnight.

Seven people were injured, including a train conductor and engineer.
