Democrats Remain Skeptical As Americans Warm To Trump Tax Plan

March 03, 2018 - 1:25 pm

NEW YORK (WCBS 880) -- Recent polls have shown Americans are warming to President Donald Trump's tax plan, but Democrats continue to put out the warning signal that the plan will damage the country.

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi was at the stone-brick, 20 aisle, All Saints Episcopal Church in Woodhaven to spread her own sermon when it came to the Republicans' remake of the country's tax laws.

Pelosi called the combination of the tax plan and Republican-created budget an attack on the values of America.

"Since the beginning of our Republic we have had the debate, how much government? How much federal government, how much local? That's legitimate, but what the Republicans are doing, that's illegitimate, because it completely unravels any opportunity," she said.

The choices Republicans made in deciding to slash funding for social services, Pelosi said, will lead to an immediate and devastating impact.

While the plan was initially unpopular with a majority of Americans, a poll last month in the New York Times found that 51 percent of Americans now support the plan.
