'Sweet Spot' With Mike Sugerman: Where To Grab A Drink Or Dinner With Your Furry Friend

NEW YORK (WCBS 880) -- A dog walks into a bar. That's not a joke, it's the basis of this week's Sweet Spot.

People like to grab a drink or dinner with their best friends. When that is a dog, there are some places around town you can do that. But only a few.

So, Mike Sugerman went to check them out.

"I have the best company in my best friend, I'm not alone," said Audrey Martinez as she enjoyed a drink at Five Boroughs Brewing Co. with her beagle by her side.

"When you go to a dog park, there's no beer," said Patrick Giordono, the owner of pit bulls, Indy and Misha.

David Weiner orders his dog grilled chicken everytime they go out to meet.

Which means the restaurant the Barking Dog on the Upper East Side where Sugerman recently caught up with Weiner sells another full meal. That's good for business and morale.

"We should just learn to be civilized, some animals are cleaner than human beings," said Lawrence Janus.

The city health department fought dogs in restaurants but eventually threw owners a bone.

Dogs can be outside in restaurants, but it's a different story inside. Some owners do it anyway hoping they get away with it or just eating the fine is the cost of doing business, Sugerman reported.

Here's a list of some places you can go out with your furry friend:

Five Boroughs Brewing Co.
Barking Dog
Tenth Avenue Cookshop
Duck Duck Bar
Lucky Dog
Pig Beach
Five Leaves
Buttermilk Channel
