Dozens Of Climate Activists Arrested At Black Friday Protest In NYC

NEW YORK (WCBS 880) – Police arrested dozens of climate activists during a demonstration in Midtown on Black Friday.

Some 300 protesters from the group Extinction Rebellion walked slowly and silently through a store pushing empty shopping carts.

They called it an “active meditation on the ravages of over-consumption.”

Around 2 p.m. Friday, the protesters marched to 34th Street and Sixth Avenue, linked arms and sat down, blocking traffic.

The group says carbon emissions from excessive consumption contribute to climate change.

In all 27 protesters were arrested for refusing to get out of the roadway.

The protest was part of a demonstrations worldwide, including in the UK, France and Italy.
