NEW YORK (WCBS 880) -- There's a sweet spot on the Lower East Side where adults flock to get a taste of their childhood.

Economy Candy at 108 Rivington Street carries over 2,000 varieties of candy at any one point, says Jerry Cohen, the third of four generations who have run the place since 1937.

They specialize in candies that date back 30, 40, even 50 years.

Customer Ramon Barriera grew up on the Lower East Side and used to come here as a kid. Now he has to travel from East Orange, New Jersey, but anytime he's nearby he stops in.

"It brings sweetness and a little sunshine to everybody when you go back and you revisit times when things were a lot simpler," Barriera said.

Wendy Werbel Marx happened to be in the neighborhood and made her first visit to the store to relive her childhood with some Bonomo Turkish Taffy.

"My daughter went when she was a youngster in Hebrew school to the Lower East Side and when I told her that I was coming here she said, 'That's the only thing that I remember,'" Marx said.

"They have stuff here that you can't find any place else," another customer said.
