NEW YORK (WCBS 880) — A man was assaulted by a group of teens Saturday morning after trying to stop them from harassing an elderly couple, police say.

The man, who a law enforcement source says is an off-duty FDNY firefighter, tried to stop a half-dozen teens from bothering the couple on East 86th Street in Manhattan.

The teens -- three girls and three boys believed to be between 15 and 17 years old -- instead turned their wrath on him.

One of the teens punched the 38-year-old man, pushed him to the ground and then kept hitting him, police say.

The victim ended up with broken teeth and a concussion. He was treated at Columbia Hospital.

A video released by the NYPD shows the teens smiling and skipping down the sidewalk.

Anyone with information about the identity of these individuals is encouraged to call NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477).
