'Fearless Girl' Statue Moved From Spot Near 'Charging Bull'

NEW YORK (WCBS 880) – One of New York’s newest and most beloved statues has a new home.

The “Fearless Girl,” with her message of female empowerment, was moved right in front of the New York Stock Exchange on Broad Street.

Her new spot was revealed at an unveiling Monday morning.

“I like this location because she gets to stand on our own here and she doesn't have to face down the bull, she just gets to stand on her own two feet,” said Mary McGonagall.

She’s a fan of the statue, saying “I think she's an excellent representation of the power of women.”

“Fearless Girl” was removed from her location facing the famous “Charging Bull” statue because crowds of tourists were creating a traffic hazard, officials said.

The “Charging Bull” will be moved as well, a spokeswoman for Mayor Bill de Blasio said last month.

Boston-based State Street Global Advisors installed the girl in March 2017 as a seven-day display intended to encourage corporations to put more women on their boards.

City officials extended her stay after she became a favorite with tourists.

Now State Street’s Lori Heinel says "Fearless Girl" has a "bigger stage ... where she can have an even bigger impact."

"She earned a place in people’s hearts, and in doing so she has earned the opportunity to extend her stay in New York," Heinel said.
