First Pediatric Flu Death Of Season Confirmed In NJ

TRENTON, N.J. (WCBS 880) — The first flu death of the season has been confirmed in New Jersey.

The state’s Department of Health confirmed that an infant, from the central region of the state, died in December as a result of the outbreak.

“I am deeply saddened for the family of this young child, who experienced an unthinkable loss,” said Health Commissioner Dr. Shereef Elnahal.

For reasons of medical privacy, the department did not be release any additional information.

Health officials said there is high flue activity throughout the state and urged those who have not gotten a flu shot yet to do so.

The Department of Health also recommends that people take the necessary precautions during this flu season, including frequent hand washing and staying home when sick.
