Key Player In Watergate: Congress Needs Whole Mueller Report

March 23, 2019 - 1:54 pm

NEW YORK (WCBS 880) – Now that special counsel Robert Mueller report has been completed, some of the attention will shift to the question of impeachment. In the meantime, it’s still unclear what exactly Congress will learn, but the implications are big.

If there’s anyone who understands the stakes with the report, it’s former Brooklyn Congresswoman Elizabeth Holtzman.

She was a key player in Watergate. She spoke with WCBS 880 some months ago.

“The similarity is you have a president of the United States who’s very hostile and trying to obstruct a serious investigation into this matter,” she said.

As an equal branch of government, Holtzman thinks Congress needs to see the whole report.

“And if you take away one of the branches of government and incapacitate it and emasculate it, then we're not going to have a democracy that functions,” she said.

Holtzman says that during Watergate, Republicans were less partisan than they are now.
