Giants Quarterback Kyle Lauletta Accused Of Nearly Striking Officer With Car

October 30, 2018 - 3:47 pm

WEEHAWKEN, N.J. (WCBS 880) -- New York Giants backup quarterback Kyle Lauletta was arrested in Weehawken, New Jersey on his way to practice Tuesday morning.

Police said he was seen driving his 2017 Jaguar "in a dangerous manner in heavy traffic" near the Pleasant Avenue approach to Route 495 around 8 a.m. An officer directed him to continue in his marked lane but police said he tried to evade the officer, making an illegal turn toward Route 495 and almost hit the cop, police said.

Lauletta was then stopped by another officer and ignored orders to show his driver's license and get out of the vehicle, according to police.

NFL Network reports Lauletta told officers he was in a rush because he was going to be late.

Giants Coach Pat Shurmur says they're still in the process of gathering information, adding, "This is obviously very disappointing."

Lauletta was drafted this year in the fourth round as a possible future replacement for Eli Manning.

Lauletta is charged with eluding police, obstructing administration of law, resisting arrest, reckless driving and other traffic violations.

Police added that Lauletta's Jaguar was involved in a similar incident in the same location Monday and summonses were issued by mail.
