TUCKAHOE, N.Y. (WCBS 880) -- A Long Island plastic surgeon was caught with a large cache of illegal weapons after allegedly threatening to kill his estranged wife and family has been arrested in Westchester, authorities said.

The weapons were not only found in Matthew Bonanno's home, but also in his BMW SUV parked outside his estranged wife's house in Tuckahoe, says Police Chief John Costanzo.

"Five assault rifles, fully loaded with high capacity magazines. Three hand guns, over 1,600 rounds of ammunition, stun gun, handcuffs, full headcover face masks, multiple military style knives, brass knuckles, scopes, binoculars and other paraphernalia," Costanzo said.

Police said Bonanno's friend notified authorities that the 47-year-old doctor from Great Neck had shown him a weapon and threatened his estranged wife and her family.

Costanzo said the defendant was in possession of a loaded glock semi-automatic handgun when he was taken into custody.

Bonanno, who faces multiple counts of criminal weapons possession charges, is being held without bail.

The couple has one child.
