Mail Fail: Upper West Side Post Office Not Accepting Holiday Packages

NEW YORK (WCBS 880) -- It's the most wonderful time of the year.

Well, not for some postal customers on Manhattan's Upper West Side.

A broken elevator is preventing the Park West Facility at Columbus Avenue at West 94th Street from accepting packages this holiday season, and it couldn't happen at a worse time.

One man who tried to mail a book to a client in time for Hanukkah told CBS 2 he was turned away. Tsadik Kaplan said when he asked when they would start mailing packages again,  the clerk smiled and said "after the new year," WCBS 880's Marla Diamond reported.

A CBS2 reporter went inside with a cameraman to get details, and an employee locked them inside the facility with customers outside and called the police, Diamond reported.

A USPS spokesperson said filming is allowed and they are investigating the incident.
