Last Chance: Today Is The Deadline To Register To Vote In November Election

October 12, 2018 - 9:45 am

NEW YORK (WCBS 880) -- Time is quickly running out to register to vote in the November election.

Two-million New Yorkers eligible to vote are not registered and Friday is the last day to change that.

Non-profits have been handing out applications in the subways and at bus stops and have been placing forms in places where people shop.

Last December, Mayor Bill de Blasio announced legislation to create online registration.

"In the future when someone says, 'How do I register to vote?' Everyone will be able to answer, 'There's an app for that,'" de Blasio said at the time.

But until then, you can register in person at your county board of elections.

Drivers can download the voter registration form and submit it through the New York Department of Motor Vehicles website.

Mail-in registrations must be postmarked by Oct. 12 and received by county registrars by Oct. 17.

The last day to mail in an absentee ballot in New York is Oct. 30.

Election day is Nov. 6.
