Protesters March In Support Of Mueller Probe In NYC

November 08, 2018 - 7:30 pm

NEW YORK (WCBS 880/AP) — Progressive protesters took to the streets Thursday across the country with several thousand people calling for the protection of special counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia probe.

Mueller is investigating the potential coordination between Russia and President Donald Trump’s campaign to sway the 2016 Presidential Election.

Protesters gathered in Times Square and chanted “Hands off Mueller” and “Nobody’s above the law” among other slogans. The activists then began moving downtown to Union Square.

According to NBC News, more than 6,000 people joined the movement in protest of President Trump's ouster of Attorney General Jeff Sessions.

Signs being carried in the group read “Truth Must Triumph” and “Repeal, Replace Trump.”

The protesters say Trump "crossed a red line" that violates the independence of the Russia investigation.

Trump asked for Jeff Sessions' resignation and then replaced him with Matthew Whitaker, his chief of staff. Whitaker has often criticized Mueller's probe.

Congressional Democrats have already called on Whitaker to recuse himself from overseeing the investigation.

The marches across the country were organized by the Move On advocacy group, who are also echoing the Democrats call. An event page for the march called for protests in each city at 5 p.m. local time.
