#CancelKavanaugh Protesters Head To DC From NYC As Senate Prepares To Vote

October 04, 2018 - 10:49 am

NEW YORK (WCBS 880) -- Hundreds of women and men from the Tri-State area boarded buses Thursday morning and headed to Washington to put pressure on the Senate not to confirm Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court.

Six charter buses full of protesters, using the hashtag #CancelKavanaugh, left before dawn Thursday for Washington from Brooklyn and Manhattan. They're hoping to sway senators on the fence about Kavanaugh to vote "no."

"You have to yell and scream, you can't depend on politicians, they cave all the time or they are too polite," said Judy Cutler, who boarded a bus in Chelsea. "He's a liar, he's everything that we abhor and they want to ram him through. I don't even think they like him, I think the Republicans, I think they know that this is their last stand and that's why we've got the power if we mobilize."

Geni Huff from Harlem says Kavanaugh showed in the hearings that he does not have there temperament to serve on the court.

"I need to let the GOP know, or the handfull of senators who might have a backbone know we're not OK, we're not OK with this, find a different nominee. There has to be another nominee," Huff said.

The protesters plan to march from the federal court to the Capitol.
