Rep. Jerry Nadler

Nadler: House Panel Will Get Answers On Barr's Summary

NEW YORK (WCBS 880/AP) — The chairman of the House Judiciary Committee says the panel will work to get answers to questions remaining from the special counsel Robert Mueller's Russia probe.

As WCBS 880’s Rich Lamb reports, Jerry Nadler says he will be calling attorney general William Barr to testify before the committee in order to answer questions about Barr’s summary of the Mueller report.

“We haven't seen the Mueller report. We have to see the Mueller report and we have to see all the evidence behind it. I certainly don't trust attorney general Barr’s summary, he read this whole thing in 20 hours,” Nadler said.

Nadler asserts Barr was recruited for the job of attorney general after he wrote a 19-page memo contending a president cannot, as a matter of law, commit obstruction of justice.

Barr said Mueller found no evidence that Trump or his associates conspired with Russia during the 2016 presidential election. It remains unclear if Trump obstructed justice.

As Nadler put it, “of course he would decide there was no obstruction of justice,” adding, “we cannot trust that decision.”

Sen. Lindsey Graham, who spent the weekend with Trump in Florida, also says his committee will investigate the actions of the Justice Department in the Russia investigation, including the FBI's use of a dossier compiled by British spy Christopher Steele.
