Jon Stewart Takes On Mitch McConnell On ‘Late Show’ Appearance

NEW YORK (WCBS 880) — Jon Stewart is fighting back over remarks about his Capitol Hill appearance.

After Stewart lambasted a largely empty Congressional hearing, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said Congress “will take care of” the 9/11 Victim Compensation Fund.

The House is moving to replenish the fund, but action in the Senate is in doubt.

On “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert,” Stewart joined the host to rant about McConnell after the Republican  said on “Fox & Friends,” he didn’t know why Stewart was so “bent out of shape” over the issue.

Stewart said McConnell only acts at the last minute and under intense pressure to help the heroes of 9/11.

“I didn’t know they were busy,” Stewart sarcastically opined over Congress, “I didn’t mean to interrupt them with their jobs.”

Stewart said he is “bent out of shape” for heroes and veterans, who are “suffering and dying and in terrible need.”

That should be enough for Congress to act, he said, adding “apparently it’s not.”
