Karina Vetrano Murder Trial Set To Begin In Queens

November 05, 2018 - 11:15 am

NEW YORK (WCBS 880) -- The trial for the man accused of killing Queens jogger Karina Vetrano begins Monday.

Chanel Lewis has pleaded not guilty in the death of the 30-year-old speech pathologist, who was killed killed as she jogged in Spring Creek Park in August 2016. Her father found her body found later that night not far from their Howard Beach home.

His lawyers say a videotaped confession should not be admissible in the trial because it was wrongly obtained.

In that confession, Lewis says he beat and strangled Vetrano after she ran past him on a secluded section of the park.

He faces life in prison if convicted.
