L Train Riders Get Preview Of 15-Month Shutdown This Weekend

August 10, 2018 - 8:57 am

NEW YORK (WCBS 880) -- Imagine if your train was cancelled every day for 15 months.

That's what's happening on the L train next year and riders will get a preview this weekend.

The L train will be out of service beginning 11:30 Friday to 5 a.m. Monday to do "super maintenance" prep work, according to MTA President Andy Byford.

Some commuters were unaware of the weekend shutdowns, WCBS 880's Marla Diamond reported. One man named Andy told Diamond takes the L train from Brooklyn to his construction job in Manhattan and said it's a big problem. "We have big problem if the train is not working."

The MTA is adding shuttle buses and additional service on existing bus routes and train routes

Weekend work will be done on 14 non-consecutive weekends between now and April, Diamond reported.
