Lesbian Couple Says Uber Driver Kicked Them Out Over Kiss

June 12, 2018 - 9:44 am

NEW YORK (WCBS 880) -- Two women say they were kicked out of an Uber because of a kiss over the weekend.

Alex Iovine, 26, and her girlfriend, 24-year-old Emma Pichl, were taking the Uber from Brooklyn to Manhattan on Saturday when they said they were told to get out of the car because the driver thought kissing in the backseat was disrespectful.

"You're not allowed to do this," the driver says in a video of the incident that Iovine posted on Facebook.

"Why are we not allowed? What's disrespectful?" Iovine asks. "Nothing is illegal. It's not illegal to kiss in New York."

The two say the kiss was more like a peck.

The 35-year-old driver, Ahmed Elbotari, tells the Daily News they were acting obnoxious -- playing loud videos, putting their feet on the seat and kissing.

Uber has apologized and returned the $22 fare.

The driver has also now had his livery license suspended. A spokesman for the city’s Taxi & Limousine Commission called the driver's behavior "ridiculous."

The women have filed a complaint with the city's Human Rights Commission.
