Long Island Co-Workers Split $437M Mega Millions Jackpot

NEW YORK (WCBS 880) -- A group of co-workers from Long Island are the lucky winners of January's $400 million Mega Millions jackpot.

But as WCBS 880's Sophia Hall reports, we may never learn their identities.

The group of co-workers from a small retail business on Long Island, who are sharing the whopping $437 million prize, are remaining anonymous because they opened up an LLC called "New Life 2019."

The 23 people played the lottery every week, putting one dollar each in an envelope. They bought the big winner at a gas station in Old Brookville.

Last year, Gov. Andrew Cuomo veteoed a bill that would have allowed lottery winners to remain anonomous. At the time the governor said they could open up an LLC if they do not want to come forward and that's exactly what this group did.

After taxes the 23 extremely lucky individuals received a check for $176 million, which amounts to about $7.6 million each.

Some plan to continue working, buy new houses and set aside money for their children's college funds.
